Volunteers needed to help remove wreaths – Jan. 22

The CGSC Foundation needs volunteers to help pick up wreaths at the Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery this Saturday, Jan. 22, 2022, at 10 a.m.

Retiring the wreaths in January is as much of a respectful requirement as placing the wreaths in December. The wreaths must be disposed of after sitting out in the weather for a month.

Persons wishing to volunteer will be able to access to Fort Leavenworth on Jan. 22. All that is required is a valid picture identification. Just pull up to the gate and let the gate guard know you will be assisting with wreath pickup at the National Cemetery on Fort Leavenworth. You will then be able to access Fort Leavenworth and head up to the cemetery. –– Please park across the street in the Frontier Conference Center parking lot and walk across to the cemetery (395 Biddle Blvd., Fort Leavenworth KS 66027).

You may bring dowel rod to pick up more than a few wreaths at once. Dumpcarts, wagons, etc., are welcome. Please be respectful of headstones and do not bump into them.

This is a team effort, so if you can afford a couple of hours starting at 10 a.m. this Saturday, your help would be appreciated.
