Driving on…

Health and safety concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic continue to preclude us from conducting any Foundation live attendance or post/College visits until July. I thank you for continuing to join with us to help mitigate the spread of the virus and to lessen the outbreak risk.

The Foundation Staff continues to work remotely with the Foundation offices, both in the Lewis and Clark Center and at the Simons Center, remaining closed to general public access. Please contact us via email at office@cgscf.org rather than calling our offices. Foundation and Simons Center publications, including the Foundation News magazine and InterAgency Journal, will continue as scheduled. New submissions for the IAJ can be made to editor@thesimonscenter.org.

Our Gift Shop is now available for your shopping convenience online. You can get all your desired College and Army logoed clothing and souvenirs at http://giftshop.cgscfoundation.org/.

While the health and safety restrictions continue to impact our operations, please be assured that the CGSC Foundation and the Simons Center are open for business and continue to support the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and the greater Fort Leavenworth Community. We are recognizing academic excellence by providing mementos that accompany graduation awards for both SAMS and CGSOC; we continue to support family reading programs at the Ike Skelton Combined Arms Research Library; and we are supporting the Fort’s MWR programs that benefit all members of our community.

A giant THANK YOU to all who supported our “Giving Tuesday Now” and our COVID-19 campaigns. You donated $2802 which was matched by an anonymous supporter to yield $5604 and $2400 respectively, to support international military families, youth reading programs, MWR activities, and Foundation programs for the CGSC students, faculty, and staff. Your continued support is greatly appreciated.

On March 27, the President signed the CARES Act into law. The act includes a charitable giving incentive which includes a new above-the-line deduction (universal or non-itemizer deduction that applies to all taxpayers) for total charitable contributions of up to $300. The incentive applies to cash contributions made in 2020 and can be claimed on tax forms next year. The law also lifts the existing cap on annual contributions for those who itemize, raising it from 60 percent of adjusted gross income to 100 percent. For corporations, the law raises the annual limit from 10 percent to 25 percent. I ask you to please keep our Foundation in mind as you consider your charitable giving.

Best wishes and stay safe.
